Cherokee Long Rifles Muzzleloader Matches

Cherokee Longrifles offhand rifle match – open to any muzzleloading rifle shooting pure lead round ball or minie, any open or peep sight, flintlock or percussion (no handicaps given to anyone shooting those newfangled cap locks!) Matches take place at the Cherokee Gun Club on the Silhouette Range. The 2011 Matches will be held on the fourth (4th) Sunday of each month beginning in March. There will be no December match. Practice begins at 12:30 PM and matches will start at 1:00 PM.  The relays will be timed with 20 minutes allotted to load and fire 5 rounds. The match normally consists of paper targets at 25, 50, 75, and 100 yards, along with metal swinger targets at various ranges to 100 yds.  Novelty targets such as a swinging turkey head, hanging charcoal briquettes, splitting splaying cards, will also be shot. There will also be bag matches, precision matches shot from a rest, and over the log type matches.  The match fee is $10, new shooters participate free the first match. Prizes awarded are drawn at random after the match – we are shooting for bragging rights! There will be a separate class for inline muzzleloaders for those who would like to tune their skills before hunting season. If you have never tried muzzleloading come on down and watch – I’ll be glad to let you try your luck on the practice range and see if we can get you hooked on our sport!
