The Cherokee Wild Bunch will shoot on the Sunday following the 4th Saturday (so that is a long way of saying either the fourth Saturday or the first Sunday). Registration starts at high noon and the mandatory safety meeting will start at 12:30. Shooting will commence shortly thereafter.
Minimum ammo requirements:
60+ pistol 40+ rifle 25+ shotgun
SASS Wild Bunch Action Shooting is a multifaceted amateur shooting sport in which contestants compete with firearms typical of those used in the taming of the Old West just after the turn of the 20th century: 1911 .45 caliber semi-auto pistols, SASS legal pistol caliber rifles, and 1897 pump shotguns. The shooting competition is staged in a unique, characterized, Old West style.

Contestants shoot in several different stages (courses of fire) in which they engage steel targets. Scoring is based on accuracy and speed.
Since we are shooting at steel targets, absolutely no jacketed ammo or steel shot is permitted. All bullets must be lead and all shot size must be 7 ½ or smaller.
The truly unique aspect of SASS Wild Bunch Action Shooting is the requirement placed on authentic period or western style dress. Each participant is required to adopt a shooting alias which may reflect a character or profession of the late 19th century, a Hollywood western star or a simple play on words. When you join SASS, which is highly recommended, your alias is registered and you will be the only one with that name.
